This week marks my inaugural week as a virtual student at Shorter University. I have completed courses online at the University of West Georgia (through the eCore program); however, this will be my first time experiencing upper level coursework through this platform.
What did I learn?
This week, we focused on Chapter 1 from the textbook.
What did I do?
To accompany this week's lesson, I participated in several online discussions. These discussions were focused around our thoughts on study habits and how we can implement them into successful course completion, plagiarism in the era of rampant technology, and
I also participated in an online test used to identify my learning style. I have taken these in the past, and all have said that I'm a strong visual learner. Many of the study tips provided are things I currently do such as taking outline style notes, reading/re-reading, and taking more notes. I did, however, discover some new tips which will be beneficial in the this course and those to follow:
- Write questions in the margin and underline the answers
- Color code notes and study sheets
- Read related material
After moving from the CAPP program at Shorter to the online program, I enjoy the "social interaction" that discussions provide. In many cases, they serve as the opportunity to share ideas, gain new perspectives, and connect with my peers. I enjoy working independently, so the online program has been a welcome change for me.
Many of the topics covered in week 1 were reviews; however, it is always nice to have a refresher!
